"Helping city leaders navigate public safety with confidence"
A City Manager’s Guide to Public Safety Decisions
Public safety is one of the largest and most consequential responsibilities in local government. City managers are expected to oversee significant budgets, evaluate leadership and performance, make decisions about staffing and technology, prepare for major incidents, and work effectively with police and fire leadership, often without having spent their careers in public safety.
Colonel Jeff Cirminiello wrote Executive Oversight: The City Manager’s Guide to the Business of Public Safety to help bridge that divide.
Drawing on three decades of public safety leadership and experience working with local government, the book gives city managers a practical perspective on the decisions that come across their desks, from budgets, staffing, contracts, and technology to chief selection, performance, major incident readiness, and emerging issues such as AI.
The goal is simple: help city managers ask better questions, understand what is being presented to them, and make informed decisions for their organizations and communities.
